Creating a website isn’t just a matter of picking a subject and getting it up and running, you often have to put a lot of consideration and research beforehand when choosing a domain name. There is a lot of controversy about domain names, people say that having the keywords in the domain name will give you a small advantage opposed to not having them in – don’t get me wrong, you can rank a domain name for anything you desire but if the little boost is there, why not go take advantage of it?

However one thing is for sure, having the domain name targeted to the sites niche will make it more user friendly. For example if you were to have a website on long term care insurance and your domain included that phrase, people would be able to identify the nature of the website before they have even looked at the site, this could reduce your bounce rate as you wouldn’t have people visiting unless they were genuinely interested. If you find out that the perfect domain name is taken, for example ‘longtermcareinsurance.com’ you could try different variations including hyphens (-). If you have your heart set on that domain you could contact the current owner and see if they would be willing to sell the domain name.

The next question is where do you actually buy a domain name from? There is no simple answer, there are hundreds of different places you can buy domain names from so you need to look around to ensure that you get the best deal. Asking friends and family is a good idea because you need the company to be reliable yet affordable. Don’t just assume that the cheapest place is the best as you will save the most money, you have to look into the support given if required and more importantly the charges when it comes to renewal or domain transfer. You would hate to find a good deal when buying a new domain name then one year later have to pay an extortionate renewal fee.

Once you have found a reputable company you should check if they accept any discount coupons, these can save you a great deal of money if you plan on buying a number of domains in the near future and trust me, it can be very addictive because if you find a domain that you believe you can develop – you have to buy it before it goes. The process of checking if the domain name is available is very simple, on the chosen website there is often a search facility where you can simply type in the domain name and within a few seconds it will come back whether it’s available or not. Be sure to double check the domain name is spelt correctly because if you rush through the application and then realise that you have misspelt the desired name, there is nothing you can do about it.

It’s that simple in today’s world that some companies actually allow you to buy a domain in just 3 clicks! Don’t be afraid to buy domains from different companies if they are holding various offers at the time of purchase, on the other hand you may want to keep everything in the same place so that managing and checking domains can be done with ease.

If you want to register domain name [http://www.skysonear.net] ensure you pick the right company that is reliable yet affordable.

There are many ways that people can make some money online. Most accepted ways to earn money on Internet is by buying and selling the domain names. Domain names are low-priced and give a very low risk of investment when in comparison to other types of investments on Internet. When you invest in domain names you have got something to show for it.

The most horrible thing that can occur is you buy a domain name, which can’t be sold. But, that is very uncommon to occur because people place the value in efforts made towards mounting it.

Domain names are inexpensive and if efforts to sell the domain name for upright income fail, then one can always draw back on selling domain for an original purchase price.

A key to find achievement in buying and selling the domain names comes from learning proper strategy and plans in the trade. If you have awareness in the business of buying and selling the domain names, you will need to invest time and money in educating yourself.

What makes good domain name?

A suffix is most important thing like .COM, .ORG, and .NET are by far most popular one. Other different domains such as .WS, .FM, .TV, are becoming increasingly popular, since they are wide open. For instance, where you cannot get DW.com but you can still acquire DW.ws. For now, I will go with .COM since they are the easiest to sell.

Would any Webmaster or business would want it?

Ask manually that question, if you cannot right away say “Yes!” don’t buy it. Keep in mind it is unlawful to register the business name or a trademark, which you do not possess. This is said “cyber-squatting” and strong laws are now in position to guard against this.

Shorter the domain name better. These are most brilliant and simplest to market. At time of writing this, there are about thousand three character of domain names left.

Tips When Buying a Domain Name

Stay Anonymous

When buying a domain name, it is necessary to stay anonymous as you can all the way keep the cost as low as possible. The domain names will not have set prices, and so the price of the domain name arrives entirely from debates between the buyer and the seller.

Don’t reveal that you are setting a website.

If the domain name individual knows that you are intending to develop a site, specially a marketable website, price of your domain name will go high, and you will finish up paying extra to the market value for the domain name.

Never reveal your name and personal information.

It is very easy for somebody to learn plenty of information about you and your financial situation on Internet. So, it will be a very good thought to make another web based email address to carry out your discussions.

Conclusion

As you can observe, buying and selling domain name is a very good way to make money. It is very simple and you can routinely accomplish it in your extra time. Sign up with Ebay.com or Afternic.com and start selling! All The Best!

There are secrets to making money from domain names that the Pro's would rather keep to themselves. Learn 'insider' plus 'under the radar' techniques and start to build your domain name empire.

Ever considered speculating on Domain Names? Or maybe failed to turn a profit from a Name you had high hopes for? Well don’t beat yourself up, just stay with me because I’d like to share a few thoughts that I know will interest you.

You’re already aware that obscene amounts of money are made from Domain Names. You know that every month names once purchased for as little as $12, are changing hands for amounts ranging from $25 (100% Profit!) up to 5 figures sums, and frequently six or even seven figure fortunes. And I’m not referring to sales of websites, just Domain Names on their own. (Not only dot com’s, but also .net’s, .org’s, .info’s, even .biz names, plus many national extensions like .us, .de etc.)

Now, lets digress, does the following sound like anyone you Know?

He dedicates an hour to thinking up a domain name that’s bound to appeal. Armed with credit card, he then eagerly searches the web for a Domain Registration Service.

Discovering the domain name is already registered, he quickly comes up with several less appealing variations, at last finding one that’s available to register. Cost $15. Job done, he sits back to contemplate a massive profit, expected imminently!.

Days drift by, then weeks, then months. No one materialises with an offer. Not to be deterred, he gets pro-active and offers the domain on eBay for $999.95 (Worried that his asking price maybe too low). One week – plus one $6 bid – later, scratches head, rubs chin and wonder’s, what next?

Staying positive, he reads a few domain articles, but is now developing a sneaky suspicion that either this Domain Name business aint all it’s cracked up to be, or some vital knowledge is missing. Decides to put Domain Speculation on hold, and turns his attention to other matters.

OK. Maybe our apprentice speculator was a little more scientific about things, but you get the message.

I’ve owned close to 1000 Domain Names and, to be frank, I got it badly wrong. No – lets be honest – horribly wrong! In fact, it’s cost me an horrendous amount of cash. Only recently have I begun to see where I went wrong.

I now realize that the whole process is one demanding a professional strategy, e.g:

Decide whether to acquire for income, short term re-sale, or income plus capital appreciation.

Buy Domain Names with just a few, carefully selected, niche’s in mind.

Use key-word searches to generate Name ideas that truly reflect what those in your chosen niche/s are seeking.

Choose whether to search for unregistered names (hugely time consuming when it comes to finding quality names, most of which have been registered) or look to buy in the secondary marketplace, where you’ll pay more, but maybe stand a better chance of acquiring a valuable asset.

Locate the right Registration Service. (Low Registration Fees, plus availability of additional services you may want to utilise)

Know what you’ll do with your Domain Name once you’ve acquired it, e.g:

# Hold on to it

~ Park it.

# Lease it (A much overlooked option).

~ Create a website to promote it, and simultaneously generate some revenue.

# Offer it immediately to prospective buyer’s active in the niche you’ve chosen.

~ Offer it on a Secondary Market Site (like Sedo)

# ‘Talk up’ the name on Domain Forums to try and generate interest.

~ Offer it to a Domain Name Portfolio Owner. (i.e. a corporate entity that control thousands of Names).

# Offer it on a specialist or general Auction Site.

And that’s just the beginning. You could seek out and buy recently expired domains, to exploit the traffic they still get. Or how about using services that specialise in catching ‘dropping names’, i.e. where owners no longer want to renew registration (or have forgotten their domains are due to expire).

There are some great publications, ebooks etc., that tell you exactly what to do to accomplish the above. There’s excellent, inexpensive and easy to use software and web services to make the whole process of locating names faster, slicker and – potentially – more profitable.

(TIP: Even if you think you don’t need these publications, tools or resources, at least check out the ‘sales spiel’ used by the Merchants who promote them. This ‘spiel’ will often let slip some ‘top tactics’ used by the Pro’s, or reveal cunning strategies and little known facts you can then use to your advantage.)

The good news is that, when it comes to domain names, there are many avenues to explore and exploit.

Don’t give up on making money from domain names, just start thinking smarter, and get the results you deserve!

A winning domain name can put you miles ahead of your competition. After all, that’s the purpose of your website, right? Unfortunately most business owners and webmasters don’t realize choosing the right domain name can be crucial to the websites success.

Good domain names have several things in common. They are descriptive of the websites content; they are easy to remember and easy to spell. Being descriptive of the websites content is the most important because this is how you will attract existing traffic to your website. If your website or business is in the shoe business, shoe better be in your domain name if you want to succeed.

Your domain name is your location on the internet. It’s your piece of virtual real estate that you can develop however you see fit. Your domain name separates you from the 120 million or so websites on the internet today. Choosing a winning domain name is the equivalent to choosing a good location for an offline business.

In order to be competitive an offline business must have a location that has existing traffic counts that will support their venture. The same is true for your website. Good domain names have the potential to capture existing traffic on the internet. That’s right “existing traffic” people already seeking the product or services you provide!

Traffic is the most sought after commodity on the internet. You can develop the website of all websites but without traffic who cares, no one will ever see it. Every website on the internet must have traffic to succeed and better yet, targeted traffic.

A winning domain name can deliver existing targeted traffic to your website from day one! When it comes to choosing the right domain name the vast majority of people, even professional webmasters, do not understand this concept. Good domain names have the potential to deliver targeted traffic to your website.

Existing traffic will come from two major sources, direct navigation or “type in traffic”, and the major search engines. Approximately 10 to 15% of all internet searches are done via direct navigation. Direct navigation is when a person types a domain name directly into the address bar bypassing the traditional search engines. If you are looking for shoes you would type in shoes.com and be taken to that website.

The major benefit of a winning domain name is having the potential to take the existing direct navigation traffic, and leverage it into mass amounts of targeted traffic, using proper search engine and website optimization practices. This in turn increases your search engine ranking.

The search engines consider many factors when ranking a page; the domain name is one of those factors. A good domain name is the foundation of a good website. Once you have the solid foundation, you develop a highly optimized website that enables you to leverage the traffic into profits.

For those that continue to think choosing the right domain name has no importance, why is the domain name industry booming? Major news stories on the domain name industry have recently been published in the New York Times, CNN Money, Fox Business and the Christian Science Monitor. Major sales over $4 million have already taken place in 2008. Major corporations are purchasing domain names. Don’t discount the importance of choosing a good domain name when developing your website, your competition may understand the value!

Selecting the right domain name is one of the most important business decisions you can make. When you have a business online, you are competing in a global economy with millions of other websites.

The latest information from Internet World Stats counted over 1 billion Internet users in 2007. According to Rich Miller of Netcraft, an Internet monitoring company that has tracked Web growth since 1995, “There are now 100 million Web sites with domain names and content on them.” Of the 100 million websites, about 47 million of them are active sites and competing for visitors.

Here are some tips to follow in choosing a domain name that makes it easy to find your business on the Internet:

(1) Choose an easy to spell domain name.

It does no good to have a website, if no one can find you because your domain name is too difficult to spell.

Last week I was talking to someone and asked her who the company was that designed her website. She told me the name of the company, and it was some very strange name that didn’t make sense to me. I had to ask her twice what the name was and I then asked her to spell it for me. Unfortunately, she couldn’t even spell the name because she said the company had a strange spelling, and she could never remember it. I then asked her for the website address, and she couldn’t remember how to spell that either. I ended up trying to guess a couple different spellings for the website and never did find the company.

Don’t get cute with your website name or for that matter, the name of your business. You may think it’s clever to spell fenikz instead of Phoenix, but don’t expect anyone to find your website.

I speak from experience on this topic. When I first started my business I was completely ignorant about choosing a business name. I thought it would be fun to have a business name that was a play on words. So I chose “Howe Write You Are Business Communications.” My last name is Howe, and I am a writer. So I chose the domain name howewriteyouare.com.

When I would tell people my domain name, this is what they heard: howrightyouare.com. They spelled the domain name exactly as they heard it and the only way they would get the correct spelling is by looking at my business card. I soon figured out what a dumb mistake I made and changed my business name after the first year.

(2) Choose the right extension for your domain name.

When you go to register a domain name you have a choice of .com, .net, .org, .biz, and some other rarely used extensions. Unless you are a nonprofit, only choose a .com extension for your domain name.

The reasons for this are very simple. When people go to search for a website, they assume it is a .com. If you have any other extension, they will end up at the wrong website.

The other reason to have a .com extension is that search engines will search first for a .com website. For example, a browser will look for quiltingtips.com before, it looks for quiltingtips.net.

Let me talk a moment about strategy when it comes to choosing a domain name extension. If you don’t want a competitor to have your domain name, then purchase all the extensions of your domain name. In other words, if my domain name was going to be quiltingtips.com, I might also purchase quiltingtips.net, quiltingtips.org, and quiltingtips.biz. This way, I insure that my business domain name will not have competition from a nearly identical domain name.

(3) Choose misspelled domain names.

If you have a business name that you know is easy to misspell, consider purchasing the domain name with the common misspelling. Both names can be set up to point to your website, so it doesn’t matter if your domain name is misspelled, people will still find you.

In my previous example, I talked about my original business name and the problems that I had with the unusual spelling of my business name. If I had not wanted to change my business name, a simple solution for me would have been to purchase the domain name howrightyouare.com and have that point to my website.

An example of a well-known business that is using this technique is Verisign. If you type in verasign.com or verisign.com you will get to the correct website.

Conclusion
Your domain name is your Internet identity. Make sure your domain name selection is not an afterthought. Take the time to thoroughly analyze your options and choose a domain name that promotes your business or product online.

Some things you should consider if it’s your first time to put up your own website. You should know that you need to register for a domain name. To get a domain name easily, a domain registration search will get you your own unique domain name.

Thousands of domain names that are used in the market and other thousands of people are registering everyday so it may be hard to come up with a unique domain name. You can try out different matches of domain names which have not been used by all the other websites with the domain registration search.

Coming up with a domain name with a single phrase in the English Language and all other major languages is very difficult. Here are some tips on how to start your domain registration search.

First tip is to make sure that you avoid messing up with the domains that are new in the web sites. Mostly already registered and are owned by someone domains are good domains. Don’t settle on the number-ridden and those which have a hyphenated domain name.

The search will give you a lot of choices that you can use. You might not have any choice but to use those names with hyphen or numbers when all else fails. This will make people not remember the domain name for good and is a major disadvantage.

You can make use of a domain name that is already registered you find in your search in a few days or months after its registration expires. Search engines sometimes ban some sites because of duplicates or did not get through the spam filters. You may use the domain name of these sites. Just try and go on with your search and see if the domain name is made available. If not, you may resolve to other domain name alternatives. There is just one domain name waiting for your approval which will bring luck to your site and be known to the world…CONTINUE [http://domainnameregistrationguide.useful-tips.com/how-to-make-use-of-domain-registration-search.html]

Believe it or not, domain names can help your site in the overall search engine optimization process. To be able to maximize the optimization process, why not optimize the domain name as well? How? Read on and we'll show you how!

Domain names are essential in your effort to gain higher ranking and visibility on the search engines. The effect is not as high as inbound links – perhaps – but as always, a little help can change a lot. Most website owners who are new in the internet business use their company name as the domain name. This is not bad; however, if you could find a more fitted name that will direct people and potential customers to your site, it would be grand. What most new website owners don’t know is that a good domain name can actually help the site to rank well on the search engines.

Company Name as Domain Names

One of the most common mistakes that new domain owners commit is the choice of domain name. Most of them will opt to use exactly the company name. What they don’t understand is that you need to place relevant keywords on the domain name to get more traffic and gradually get higher sales profit. The domain must carry significant keywords that tell about the products or the services that the company offers. A company that sells “sports ball” online should have a domain name like “sportsball.com” rather than “bigjoe.com” (say Big Joe is the name of the company).

The domain name with relevant keywords will generate more visitors than the company name that tells nothing about the company itself. In registering a domain name, think of important keywords which you think your visitors will be looking for in search for your product or services. In doing so, the domain name is actually helping your site’s visibility and ranking on the search engines.

Advantage of Optimized Domain Names

To see if placing keywords on the domain name really works, you can try it for yourself. Key in some keywords on the search box and notice that those on the top list are sites with keyword-rich domain names. This is due to the fact that search engines read the keyword on the domain name as it crawls on the entire site. Hence, optimized domain names will be very useful and effective.

Getting the Best Domain Name

Most of the internet users think of domain names as all ending in “.com”. New website owners who are in search of a good domain name may end up feeling disappointed knowing that all his potential names are already taken. What happened to all the “.com” names? With millions of websites worldwide, what will you expect?

Don’t worry because search engines treat all domain extensions as equal. So the “.net”, “.biz” and other extensions are all cared for at the same level by major search engines. These extensions can actually be the key for a greater opportunity to register an optimized domain name that carries relevant keywords about your site.

Altogether, what you need is an optimized domain name. It is not all that you need to increase your site’s visibility and rank but it does a little help!

This article shows how to buy a good domain and drives home the point about owning good domain names. This is a good long term as well short term investment.

Domain names are not just online identities anymore they are the most important asset an online company owns. There are businesses being spun out because the owner stumbled on a good domain name. These folks are minting money like hell that they use this revenue to build more and better businesses. Have you invested in stocks and found that a small bad news would completely change the value of the stock? Rather invest in online domain names they are relatively easy to acquire and maintain. The initial acquisition cost is sometimes high but most often in the right hands this will be gold mines that can bring in 10 times more revenue per year than the initial investment each year. Have you owned real estate property as investments? You know that their value goes up slowly but surely. The domain names are similar to the land you buy, you can change the home you build on top as many times while the land value goes up. Acquiring land is important like that the domain names are important to buy when one good one becomes available. For example patriotism is a good theme and it is evergreen, owning a domain name that deals with patriotism it is a good investment. Like this there are many common themes that you can invest on which are long term great investments.

There are many ways where you can go to find good domain names that come for sale like afternic. But you got to constantly look for the good ones. More so often the owners don’t want to reveal that their domain name is for sale. So you got to maintain a lot of contacts who can bring you the news about the great domain names for sale. When you buy the domain names, be sure to transfer the name immediately and create a website for it. You can park these domain names and make more money through redirect traffic as well. Don’t pay the asking price try to get more details on how long the person has owned the website and whether it is listed in a blacklist. This is critical blacklisted domains are cheaper as they take time to heal. Also you may don’t want to miss out the domain names which have good websites that has been drawing traffic. The other important factor to look for is the pagerank of the website the higher the PR the more valuable the domain name is. You may also want to make sure they are listed in search engines. This will ensure you can have some good free traffic while you work on the business model.

There are many additional factors that determine the value of the domain. But there is the additional perceived value for a domain name that when factored in will either diminishes or increase the value. The rough equation for looking for domain value is

(Domain Name quality) + Page Rank + SERP + (perceived value) + current relevance

You got to understand the last factor as well. The domain name may be a hot cake now or in some yesteryear and the search engines give it good placement for keywords for thing that were popular like John Kerry a few years back now it doesn’t have value. So make calculated judgment and be a good businessperson while negotiating. Take into consideration how important the domain name is for your long term business aspirations and its short term value. You should also take into consideration the investment potential.

One example of a great domain name that is for sale on the Patriotic theme is patriotic.com. You can find similar dictionary domain names rarely but look out on the Internet for great domain names like this.

Got unused domains in your portfolio collecting dust? Get out there and develop them yourself or pay a professional.

The last time you looked at your domain portfolio, did you see any domains that you are doing nothing with? They are just sitting there collecting dust. We all have them. It’s always those domains that we purchased or registered thinking they were going to be the next big thing. Perhaps you thought they were going to be an easy quick flip on the domain market place yet you have yet to even get a nibble nor less a bite. Don’t worry, you aren’t the only one with this problem.

So you may be asking, what do I do with these domains? Do I sell them for my cost or perhaps less then my cost and take a hit just to get rid of them? Do I just let them expire and forget about them? Well you could get rid of them but it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be beneficial for you to do so. The best way to fix this issue is to take some time and develop these domains. No one will visit the site if there is no website nor if the search engines know it even exists. Building up a website on an unused domain can be very rewarding but the only negative aspect to this is it takes up time. If you have 5 or more domains sitting around building up a website on each can not only take some time but also will suck away your time to keep them updated. In order to keep good search engine ranking they must be constantly updated with fresh content or else they will slowly slip down the ranks and disappear in the 10th or 20th page of a keyword search.

If you have several domains that are being unused at the moment and you don’t have plans on using them why not let a professional build them up for you? The advantages to this is it’s stress free, takes up no time, and unless you stay on top of all of the optimization tricks will probably have much better results then if you developed them. The only disadvantage is of course it costs money. How much money you ask? Well the prices can be very high per domain to actually fairly cheap. Although there are some new companies out there that is providing this service for less then you would spend on a combo fast food meal for each domain each month. These companies monetize your unused domain name and all you do is sit back and watch the money flow in. The only 2 things they as of you is the small fee each month to provide this service and also to point your domain name servers over to theirs so it will point to their server. They host the domain and keep it updated as part of the paid service.

So what are you waiting for? Whether you do it yourself or you pay a professional to develop your domains get out there and get started today. Unlock those domains you have boxed up in your domain attic and blow off the dust and let them start earning you money. You might be surprised how valuable those “worthless” domains actually are.
